5 Tips To Slow Down When Life Is Moving Too Fast

1. Take A Full Rest Day

When life is incredibly busy, taking rest is paramount to regain your physical and mental health.

If you’re exhausted mentally and lacking enough rest or sleep, you could be causing yourself more harm than you think…

Inadequate rest can lead to:

Even though physical rest is usually what we think of when it comes to exhaustion, mental rest can be just as important.

A full rest day (time willing) can help you get the rest you need and allow you to be more productive going forward.

2. Intentionally Declutter Your Schedule

Getting out and enjoying fun activities is always great, but if you find that your schedule is packed with minimal rest, it may be time to step back and simplify your schedule.

Our society has trained us to love business and how it equates to being productive…

However burnout can happen you’re not setting boundaries and saying “no” more often.

Having too much on your plate may not be all negative, but if you’re moving each day like your hair is on fire, then it may benefit you to take some rest and enjoy some empty spaces on your calendar.

3. Create A Hygge Nook

Creating a Hygge Nook is the perfect solution to burnout and the need to slow down…

A Hygge Nook is a cozy corner you intentionally create as a designated cozy space you can retreat to for reading and any other relaxing activity you choose.

You may already have something like this in your home, but might not have a name for it…

A Hygge Nook, however, is an intentional space that you go to specifically to relax and unwind.

This doesn’t necessarily mean your couch in your living room in the general sense, but more like a specific room with a cozy chair or a cozy part of your couch that you add blankets and other fun, relaxing accessories like candles, plants, etc.

4. Take 5-10 Minutes of Silence

Slowing down can be really, really hard during the day, especially when there’s work to be done, tons of chores around the house, and other family duties that need your attention…

What’s even harder than that is taking 5-10 minutes of silence for some peace and quiet.

If you’re able, find a quiet space or room, set a timer, and try your best to sit quietly with your thoughts and enjoy some silence.

This can seem painful at first, but it can help you self-reflect and regain some much-needed inner peace.

5. Set Aside Time For Stretching & Light Exercise

Just like mental rest and its health benefits, light physical exercise, such as walking and stretching, is great for calming and relaxing your body.

Taking a morning walk followed by light stretching can be a great way to start your day, or if you prefer your evenings, it can be a great way to unwind and get ready before bed.
