Top 9 Areas In Your Home To Declutter Today

1. Drawers

There’s a reason junk drawers exist…

Drawers, no matter where in the house, seem to be a magnet for clutter accumulation.

This area can also be a big cause of stress due to the repeated use of drawers throughout your day. Each time you open a messy drawer, you’re reminded of the need to clean it up.

This can cause a buildup of anxiety and become a nagging stressor until you choose to address it.

Tip: Focus on specific drawers from an area you use regularly and would benefit from finally organizing. Consider drawers in your bathroom, kitchen, or bedroom first. Clear out the entire contents of your drawers and then remove any trash first, and then determine what needs to stay in the drawers. Use drawer organizers and relocate/remove the items that won’t be staying.

2. Countertops

Countertops are prime suspects for paper clutter and other miscellaneous items.

This is one of the main areas of your home to focus on because it’s the most common place outside of storage and drawers where junk tends to pile up, intentionally and unintentionally.

3. Under-Sink Areas

Your under-sink areas can become major problems when decluttering due to the large volume of items that you actually use.

In under-sink areas in your bathrooms and kitchen, you’ll find that most items are cleaning supplies, beauty products, soaps, and other essentials.

If the majority of your under-sink areas are full of these items, like most of us, then it may help to declutter a few items that don’t belong and organize the rest

4. Office/Desk Area

When it comes to productivity, a clear and organized work space allows you to focus and get more done.

Take time to clear off your desk and create your ideal work space. Even if you don’t do much work in your office or desk, use this area to sort through mail, shred sensitive info, and organize important documents.

Follow these simple tips for a clutter-free office:

5. Closets/Wardrobe

This is a no-brainer…

Even if your closet isn’t fully decluttered, taking time to audit your wardrobe and figure out what fits and what doesn’t can help you start the purging process if you’re short on time.

6. Storage

Sometimes, storage in your home isn’t just for things that need to be out of sight. Storage can be overused to pile up clutter that you may be holding on to.

Review your storage areas, like your basement, closets, garage, and attic…

Using these areas as storage isn’t a problem, until you find that these areas are full of old things you never use or no longer need.

Simply check these areas, and find which ones are the most problematic.

Choose to focus on one at a time and look for things that you haven’t used in a while and ask yourself if you think you will use/need it in the future, if the answer is no, consider the box rule, and remove the box of stuff in 6 months if you haven’t touched it.

Note: Keep in mind holiday decorations and other storage boxes like that don’t count if they are used regularly and enjoyed.
