5 Things To Let Go For A More Intentional And Decluttered Life
Is your current season of life feeling overwhelming and disjointed?
When life gets really busy, we tend to lose sight of the little things and potentially fall into poor habits.
This can include:
- Poor diet/binge eating due to mental and emotional stress
- Mood swings
- Running on auto-pilot
Instead of falling into bad habits and patterns of unhealthy behavior, taking a step back and setting an intention for your life can help you find direction and help you to start the process of decluttering your life.
Here are 5 Things to let go for more intention and a decluttered life!

5 Things To Let Go For A More Intentional And Decluttered Life
1. A Cluttered Schedule
In our culture, a busy schedule can signify success or that you’re a responsible adult who accomplishes important things, etc.
Furthermore, when raising a family, a cluttered schedule can be inevitable, but adding more for the sake of being busy can clutter your life and time in a negative way.
Instead of seeing blanks on your calendar and looking to fill each and every day, step back and be intentional with your time…
Ask yourself:
- Is this something I want to do, or am I trying to fill my schedule for the sake of being busy?
- What is something relaxing (given free-time) I could try to relax my mind and connect with my spirit (self-reflect).
Overall, it’s okay to relax and take a day to unwind, and not just Sunday if you can help it.
2. Hours On Your Devices
Letting go of of screentime can give you back hours and hours that may otherwise be wasted.
According to 2025 stats from Harmonyhit.com, “53% of Americans want to cut down on phone usage in 2025 and Americans spend an average of 5 hours and 16 minutes on their phones per day.”
It doesn’t seem like that much time in the moment, but when we look back at the time spent on our devices, even yesterday for instance, we realize just how much time our electronics take from our day.
Letting go and being more intentional around your screentime can lead to:
- Better sleep
- Less eye strain
- Better mood
- Less anxiety
Instead of letting your devices dominate your time, here are some ways to set boundaries:
- Try a 30-minute phone-free time every day
- Delete distracting apps
- Avoid social media if possible
- Replace phone time with reading
- Keeping your phone in a specific place each time when taking a break.
3. Poor Eating Habits
As we get busier, it just gets easier and easier to fall into bad eating habits…
When you’re tired and mentally exhausted, the last thing you want to do is spend a few hours cooking and prepping…
Instead, it’s much easier when you’re stressed to grab some snacks or fast food.
To change this, set an intention around your diet and eating habits:
- Pick some new recipes to try (1-3 healthy meals)
- Commit to meal prepping
- Avoid purchasing (too much or altogether) snacks or unhealthy food at the grocery store

4. Holding Onto Clothes You Never Wear
Simplifying your wardrobe is one of the best ways to get started with decluttering.
It’s something you’ll feel the impact of on a daily basis due to using your closet frequently and realizing how many clothes we have that never get touched month after month.
Identifying your favorite clothes first and then getting rid of clothes that don’t fit or you no longer love can be an effective way to get started.
5. Overcommitting
Similar to overscheduling, not setting boundaries can lead you to overstretching your availability and leading to overwhelm.
It’s nice to be friendly and agree to different activities, but it’s important to say “no” and set those essential boundaries in your life to honor the things that fit your highest good.
This helps you to protect your time and your peace.
