Focus On Surface Clutter

In the evening, one of the best things you can do to reset and avoid visual clutter, is to clear off your surfaces…

These surface include:

  • Kitchen counters
  • End tables
  • Entryway table
  • Media centers

Perform a quick walk-through of your flat surfaces and clear any trash and excess stuff that doesn’t belong.

If you’re unsure of where to put certain items, grab a box and place those items in your “maybe” box to deal with later, since this should be quick.

Return Each Item To Its Home

Once you have designated a “home” for your regular-use items like your TV remote, pillow, and blankets, it’s much easier to do a quick sweep and put everything back in its place before heading off to bed.

Reset Your Kitchen & Living Room

Making sure your kitchen and living room are tidy before bed can be a huge stress reliever…

There’s nothing worse in your home than waking up and coming downstairs to dirty dishes and an unorganized living room.

To prevent any added stress and to keep your home relaxing, reset your kitchen by:

  • Ensuring all dishes are clean the night before
  • Wiping down your kitchen surfaces
  • Putting back any kitchen supplies (air fryer, blenders, cooking utensils, etc.)
  • Relocate miscellaneous items like mail, medicine, and anything that doesn’t belong on your kitchen counter

Keep your living room tidy by:

  • Placing remotes back in their place
  • Put blankets and pillows back into their correct spot on the couch or basket/storage
  • Make sure the floor is clean, and no trash or food is on the floor (quick vacuuming session or sweep if needed)

Take Care Of Loose Clothing

Lastly, take care of loose clothing and laundry…

Sometimes loose laundry and old clothes like sweatshirts may find homes on chairs and couches.

Set a 5-minute timer and go through your living areas and bedroom and pick up any clothes on the floor and place any laundry where it needs to go.

If you have clothes that need to be folded, but don’t quite have the time, keep the clothes in your hamper and set aside to fold another time.

If your clothes are overflowing and taking up space in your bedroom, bite the bullet and fold and put them back before bed, or relocate to a spare bedroom if possible.
