How Does Stress Dominate Our Lives?

Cluttered schedules and cluttered homes cause us to feel overwhelmed…

When we have endless deadlines and places to be, stress can build up and overflow. If your home environment is also chaotic, this can cause your stress levels to rise even higher.

In general, stress from daily life also comes from:

  • Busyness
  • Endless appointments,
  • Responsibilities
  • Planning and coordination

This type of stress leads to mental exhaustion, which is almost as bad as physical exhaustion.

Here are some of the ways mental fatigue can impact your life:

  • Impairs your judgment
  • Hurts your focus
  • Tasks take longer to complete
  • Decreases your productivity

5 Easy Ways To Reduce Your Stress & Make Your Life Easier

1. Use A Planner

One of the best ways to reduce your daily stress is to utilize a planner.

This is because there are so many things we need to keep track of, like appointments, birthdays, and plans, that it can become overwhelming trying to keep track of everything.

I’ve realized recently that my to-do lists have caused me so much stress because they just turn into reminders that I ultimately ignore and put off for later.

This causes me to procrastinate and delay my tasks, which adds more stress.

I tried digital planning and using digital to-do lists, but I found that it doesn’t really work for me, and I simply prefer traditional physical planners.

Here are some of the drawbacks of digital planners:

  • You need your digital device to access it
  • Easy chance of getting distracted with notifications on your phone/tablet
  • If your device is harmed or broken, everything may be lost

Here are some of the benefits of using a physical planner:

  • Improved memory retention when writing by hand
  • Better focus due to fewer distractions

Furthermore, utilizing your calendar to set an action plan rather than another item you’ll ignore on your to-do list has completely changed the way that I approach important tasks.

Instead of just writing down a reminder, I’m actively looking for a place on my calendar to set a date to complete the task.

This is helpful because not all tasks can be done in one day, and a lot of them are reminders for the future.

2. Engage In Relaxation Activities

Setting aside time to recharge and relax is a must if you’ve been feeling overwhelmed lately!

These types of activities allow your mind to relax and give you a break from the busyness of daily life!

Here are some relaxation activities you can implement into your routine:

  • Home spa day
  • Stretching
  • Taking walks around the neighborhood or at a local park
  • Watching a movie
  • Reading
  • Conscious breathing
  • Reflective journaling
  • Gratitude journal

3. Stay In The Present

Our minds tend to dwell on the past and worry about the future, but to find peace, we need to be conscious and aware of the present.

If you’re like me, then you’ve got monologues and storylines going on in the background of your mind throughout the day.

It’s tough, but practicing mindfulness can help you regain your center in the present moment and catch yourself when you start daydreaming and dealing with distracting thoughts.

Start by being mindful of your breathing and how you feel…

Over time, it will become more natural to you, and you’re stress levels will be reduced because you’ll be able to slow down your mind and calm your body.

4. Schedule Time For Yourself

Take time to invest in your hobbies and other activities that make you happy!

This is crucial for reducing stress and living a good life…

When you get into a routine in life, it can sometimes begin to feel monotonous. If you’ve ever felt this, life can seem boring and without purpose or meaning.

When you have hobbies and activities that move closer to reaching a goal, your life will be more fulfilled and happier overall.

Even if your hobbies aren’t your “purpose”, they can still be something that brings great joy into your life.

All in all, spend time doing things that make you laugh and that brighten up your day!

5. Journaling

Writing down your anxieties, thoughts, and feelings can be a great way to unload stress that has built up…

Journaling gives you the opportunity for self-reflection.

Self-reflection enables you to catch negative patterns of thought or other behaviors that aren’t in alignment with who you want to be.

The easier you’re able to recognize these patterns, the better equipped you are to handle your stress and other high-pressure situations.

Final Thoughts

Stress is something we all deal with in our own way…

Alleviating this stress and creating a peaceful home and life takes work, but it’s achievable. When you bring balance into your life, you’re able to provide rest for your mind, body, and spirit.

Especially in today’s time when we’re all so busy, it’s important to take time for reflection and relaxation.

Find the best relaxation activities that work for you and invest time each week (5-10 minutes) to balance out the stress you may be feeling.

Along with relaxation, getting proper sleep also has a major impact on your stress levels throughout the day.

Do your best to eliminate electronics close to bedtime and reap the benefits of great sleep and lower stress levels!
