Why Declutter Your Life?

Like we mentioned above, decluttering isn’t all about removing your physical clutter…It’s about decluttering your mind and finding areas of your life that are filled with things that no longer serve you.

Start by identifying what’s essential to you and remove anything else that doesn’t fall into that category.

Removing unnecessary aspects of your life allows you to experience life intentionally with who you want, and doing what you want!

This can also remove a burden off your shoulders in the form of lingering stress/anxiety and feeling overwhelmed.

5 Ways To Declutter Your Life & Embrace Simple Living

1. Declutter Your Electronics

One of the most obvious areas in which you can simplify your life is your electronics.

Let’s be real, phone addiction is real and can rob us of hours of our time if we aren’t careful.

Distractions like social media and online shopping are extremely tempting, and if you want to simplify, these things should be reduced if they aren’t essential to you.

Here are the digital areas you should focus on decluttering:

  • Unused phone apps
  • Unused tablet apps
  • Delete social media
  • Delete shopping apps
  • Declutter your email
  • Organize your chargers/loose cables
  • Pause or turn off notifications
  • Put your phone in do-not-disturb mode during the day

2. Declutter Your Mind

After decluttering your digital space, decluttering your mind is the next best way to simplify your life.

With fewer digital distractions, your mind will increase its focus and clarity. Your attention span will improve, and you’ll be able to focus on the present moment with more awareness.

Here are some of the best ways to declutter your mind:

  • Take time away from devices
  • Get out into nature
  • Say “no” more
  • Be intentional with your time
  • Journal and write down your thoughts
  • Start a gratitude journal
  • Stop procrastinating and get your important tasks completed
  • Make time for stretching and mindfulness
  • Give yourself a self-care day and unwind

3. Simplify Your Routines & Habits

Simplifying your habits and routines minimizes the decisions you need to make in your day and reduces the mental overwhelm you feel throughout the day.

Business can cause burnout, and creating simple routines can streamline your daily life…

Ways To Simply/Streamline Your Daily Life

Here are some helpful tips to streamline your day:

  • Tip 1: Creating a stress-relieving evening routine can allow you to unwind and get better sleep, helping prep you for a productive day. During your evening routine, pick out your clothes for the next day and set them aside. This way, when you wake up, you don’t need to waste time picking clothes, you spend mental energy deciding what to wear.
  • Tip 3: Use your calendar instead of endless to-do lists… The awesome book, 15 Secrets Successful People Know About Time Management, explains that endless lists can cause disappointment and procrastination. Rather, it’s better that you use a calendar or digital planner to schedule your to-do items because that gives you a day and time to accomplish your tasks instead of a list that you may not even address that day. Limiting your daily essential items to 3 max can also simplify your daily burden and help you feel accomplished and minimize burnout.
  • Tip 4: Simplify your meals by meal prepping ahead of time over the weekend (or whenever time works best for you). This streamlines your meals and allows you to save time when making lunch/dinner. This also helps you eat healthier and limit poor eating habits.

4. Declutter The High-Traffic Areas In Your Home

Decluttering your high-traffic areas is one of the most effective ways to declutter your life because your daily life is influenced by these areas…

Certain cluttered parts of your home may not be seen daily, but these areas can make your life harder if they’re unclean and unorganized.

Consider decluttering these high-traffic areas in your home first:

These areas take up a large quantity of time during your daily life, and when decluttered and organized, can reduce your stress and allow you to save time from having to constantly clean.

5. Declutter Your Schedule

Lastly, decluttering your schedule can allow you to make more time for family and for your mental health.

Here are reminders & positive uses of your time:

  • Make time for relaxation
  • Again, be intentional with your time
  • Spend time with people you love
  • Schedule fun date nights
  • Spend time seeking positive experiences
  • Don’t over-clutter your calendar
  • Have a family game night
  • Have a family movie night
  • Reschedule appointments
  • Reduce your errands
  • Don’t add anything to your schedule just because it’s blank
  • Enjoy doing nothing and allow yourself to relax at home

Unbusying yourself and spending more time with family can help you to relax, laugh, and find more contentment each week instead of burnout!

  1. My husband is a keeper..we just had our kitchen remodeled and he has filled all the “cups & glasses” area with old cups he saved from his mom’s house, after he passed. I won’t throw them..but I’d like some nicer coffee cups and glasses..instead old plastic cups and drinking glasses.help.

    1. Hi Lori! 🙂

Thanks for reaching out! I think a good conversation with your husband about possibly relocating them could work. That way, he understands how you feel and hopefully agrees to get new glasses and coffee cups that you both can keep in that area instead. Maybe there is a special area in your home where those special older cups can be stored or even displayed as a good memory.

      Hope that helps!
